South Melbourne Home | Inglis Architects

in Interiors, Residential

The brief for this mid 1800’s house in the trendy inner city suburb of South Melbourne was to create an inviting retreat, a true sanctuary for the owners. Inglis Architects have worked closely with the clients to transform the two storey house, maintaining the spaciousness of the original structure while updating the details and materials throughout to give it a more modern feel.

The large, black steel framed bi-fold doors leading to the green filled courtyard are a beautiful way to make sure the outdoors is as much a part of the home as the indoors. In close proximity to the edible garden is the kitchen with its custom cabinetry and wall length marble splashback. Splashes of duck egg blue throughout the kitchen add just the right amount of colour and calm to the palette.

The clever mix of materials in this home adds all at once to the modernity and cosiness of the space. A perfect combination of soft linens and leather with honey coloured timber and shiny marble sit harmoniously along the minimal structures. The result is an entirely uncluttered, balanced home full of personality; one that we’re certain the owners will delight in coming home to.
